In five years, a tiny New Hampshire school went from a no-name liberal arts university with a few thousand students to a thriving, nationally-recognized online university with over 34,000 students and 180 online programs. Based on the changing demographics of post-secondary students, the leaders at Southern New Hampshire University decided to target “non-traditional” students – working adults with many life responsibilities and time demands.
The school discovered the solution by drastically increasing their online course offerings, and this change has transformed the school from a financially struggling campus to a burgeoning retailer of online degrees. While this change has not come without some opposition, the need for flexible alternatives for higher education has ensured the success of their program.
This is very interesting. I see commercials for Southern New Hampshire University all the time. It’s amazing how they have handled the influx of new students.
